I wanted to connect to my linux desktop to allow someone else to print to my computer’s printer. They were using Windows, so I played around with setting up a freenx server on my linux machine (enabling the correct packages in KPackageKit) and installing the NX Client For Windows on the Windows PC. It worked very well.
